2024 CWC-ACBS Event Recaps

The Columbia-Willamette Chapter of the Antique & Classic Boat Society (CWC-ACBS) had an exciting and successful year with a variety of events that brought members together for adventure, camaraderie, and celebration of classic boating. Here’s a look back at some of the key highlights from 2024:

PT 658 Tour – September 14, 2024

The PT 658 Tour was a standout event with six boats participating, including Doug S., who traveled all the way from Grants Pass. Members toured the PT 658, including its Oregon Maritime Museum exhibit, the foredeck, and the helm. The day also featured a tour of LCI-713, which many found just as impressive as PT 658. A thrilling moment was hearing one of the boat’s three Packard V12 engines running.

West Linn Boat Show – 2024

Held in conjunction with the West Linn Fair, the 2024 West Linn Boat Show was a big success, with 12 classic boatsdisplayed. The fair brought a lively crowd to the docks, where attendees enjoyed great food, including plenty of corn dogs, and watched a water demonstration, which was the afternoon highlight.

Mayfield Campout and Cruise

The Mayfield Campout and Cruise at Lake Mayfield was an unforgettable weekend filled with fun and adventure. With beautiful weather and scenic surroundings, members camped under the stars and cruised the lake in their timeless classic boats. The event included plenty of laughter, games, and relaxation, making it an ideal weekend getaway for all involved.

CWC-ACBS Annual Meeting – November 3, 2024

The Annual Meeting took place at the Historic Butteville Store, where members gathered to review the year’s highlights and elect new Officers and Board Members for the upcoming term. This historic venue is now managed by Oregon Parks and Recreation and serves as a specialty food store and café, offering a perfect spot for the election event.

Lake Simtustus Resort Tour

The Lake Simtustus Resort tour involved Jim West of West Coast Classic Boat Restoration, who delivered a 1995 Grand Craft runabout to the resort. Michael and Bree West and Bob and Wendy Nelson joined in, and the boats were part of the filming for the resort’s promotional material. The event highlighted the beauty of the resort, which boasts over 300 days of sunshine per year—a great spot for relaxation and water activities!

Butteville Elections of Officers

The Historic Butteville Store, owned by Oregon Parks and Recreation, served as the venue for the elections of Officers. The store has a long history and now operates as a specialty food store and café, offering Half Pint Brothers ice cream, deli sandwiches, and Saturday Night Dinners for visitors and locals alike.

A huge thank you to all the members, volunteers, and participants who made each of these events special and successful. We look forward to another year of classic boating, community spirit, and unforgettable memories in 2025!

Lake Simtustus Resort

Jim West, of West Coast Classic Boat Restoration and CWC-ACBS member, was tasked with the repair and delivery of a 22′ 1995 Grand Craft runabout to Lake Simtustus Resort near Warm Springs. Michael and Bree West with their 17’ 1966 Century Fibersport got to tag along, as did Bob and Wendy Nelson with their 22’ 1953 Chris Craft Utility. It happens that they were creating advertising for the resort, so their boats got to be involved in the filming. If you are looking for a getaway, this resort boasts 300+ days of sunshine per year. Check out the Lake Simtustus Resort website to see what they have to offer.

PT 658

The 2024 PT 658 Tour was a great success. The event took place on September 14, and the weather was pleasant. For those who continued boating into the late afternoon, we encountered an occasional soaking shower. Six boats participated, with Doug S. coming all the way from Grants Pass, making him the furthest traveler.

The tour of PT 658, organized by the Columbia-Willamette Chapter of the Antique and Classic Boat Society (CWC-ACBS), was fantastic, with the group splitting into three rotating tour groups. The tour included stops at the Oregon Maritime Museum’s PT 658 Exhibit, where participants explored the Museum and memorabilia section, the foredeck, and the helm and aft deck.

After a lunch of sandwiches and chips, the group had the opportunity to tour LCI-713 (Landing Craft Infantry 713), which is berthed next to PT 658 at the museum. In the Webmaster’s opinion, the LCI-713 was just as impressive as PT 658. Additionally, the group got to hear and smell one of PT 658’s three Packard V12 engines running—a highlight of the day.

Mayfield Campout and Cruise

At Lake Mayfield, oh what a sight,
With tents pitched high, we camp through the night!
The trees are tall, the water’s clear,
A perfect place for fun and cheer.

Boats, oh boats, so old and grand,
The Antique Boat Club takes its stand!
They cruise and glide, they toot and glide,
With wooden hulls, they beam with pride!

We laugh, we float, we splash and play,
On Lake Mayfield, we’d love to stay.
So bring your boat or grab your gear,
The lake is calling—let’s camp out here!
