Our History

1992 to 2022

It all started in the spring of 1992 when Scott Miller placed the following ad in the Oregonian newspaper:  “Classic Wood Runabouts, Chris Crafts, Centurys, Garwoods, Higgins… what else? Where are you? We’re getting together. Please call Scott Miller ASAP.”

Fifteen to twenty people showed up at Portland’s Stanford’s Harborside restaurant.   At this meeting they decided to display their boats at River Place docks and about a dozen boats showed up.  They had so much fun that they decided to start a boat club.  First-year activities included several cruises and some members traveled to the Coeur d’Alene boat show.  In 1992 the only nearby ACBS chapter was the Pacific Northwest Chapter in Seattle.  Our club joined ACBS as an official chapter in the spring of 1993.

Scott Miller, Dick Werner, Sue Korwin, Dan Hecht, Dave Jerome, Mike Keane, Doug Pike, Jerry Snyder, and Jim Mattimore were among the founding members

Many people have come and gone since then but our passion for boating remains.

Today we have a dedicated Board of Directors almost as large as the original membership, who organize cruises, boat shows , educational events and fun.

Thank you for beginning, developing, and investing in a club that is still thriving 30 years later.
